Health and Social Care Testimonials

"On the 6th May 2009 - Birmingham St Mary's Hospice held a conference entitled 'Reaching People'.  One of the aims of this conference was to bring together people from different Black Minority Ethnic groups to discuss issues around Palliative Care and to highlight Hospice services.

Mr Pogson was invited to participate as a Speaker and give a 10 minute presentation at this event.  He spoke about his experiences of being a carer who had accessed Hospice care and the influence of culture & ethnicity within this.  Mr Pogson's session was well received by the delegates and evaluated very well, with most evaluations rated as "excellent".  In addition, the structure and subject matter of the presentation was well thought out, considering the short time scale allowed.

Mr Pogson's presentation style and personal style were both refreshing and engaging and well received.

As Clinical Education Lead at Birmingham St Mary's Hospice, I would welcome Mr Pogson back to the Hospice to be involved in future educational developments within this area, as I believe his contribution was invaluable to the success of the day."

"I have hired the services of James Pogson as a Creative Communications Consultant on a few occasions now within the Health and Social Care arena.  On one project he was both a Script Editor and Drama Facilitator for 'Breaking Silence', an award winning DVD Mental Health Drama.  James was able to enhance the issues we were trying to portray - showing us that less can sometimes mean more whilst conveying a powerful message.

In another capacity, he was able to write an emotionally compelling short film, a stimulating project proposal, a company brochure which reflects my style and tone; and an engaging magazine article - all to strengthen and promote the company brand I'm developing.

His insight into what makes compelling written and spoken communication has proved invaluable.  Not only does he get the job done, he's able to explain what he does in simple, yet creative terms.  I've worked in Health and Social Care for more than 20 years, and really believe in the work James Pogson produces.  There's a big need for his services right now."

"As part of a resources briefing for professionals working in the area of Sexual Health, James was invited to speak about the process and development of the film project 'Can't Happen to Me'.  The film focused on young African Caribbean men and their risk-taking behaviours.

James went on to speak about how the resource could be used effectively not only with young African Caribbean men, but with all young people, including young women.

His delivery was not only professional but also extremely engaging."

"In 2003 James Pogson and the Sexual Health Promotion Service embarked on a journey to develop a Sexual Health drama entitled 'Can't Happen to Me".  Together with On Point Films and Martin Glynn (Writer), we wanted to produce a well researched, relevant, realistic and factually correct Video/DVD resource to explore the key sexual health issues for young men, particularly young African Caribbean men that are involved in key risk-taking behaviour (i.e gangs, drugs, sexual risk-taking, etc).

One of the most important things within health promotion when embarking upon a piece of work of this magnitude is to ensure that the process of evaluation is in place and completed to a high standard.  It needs to be thorough and accurate, but to also provide an insight into the process of the project.  In this way, it builds a firm platform for developing any future work of this nature.

We were certainly not disappointed with what we received.  Right from the outset it was clear that James was an amazingly creative and talented Professional Writer and Speaker.  He has an ability to capture and put into words, some of the key moments which often go unnoticed and unrecorded by most others.  Thus, making it an easy decision for us to commission James to deliver this particular piece of work.

It is obvious that James has worked extremely hard to develop and deliver this evaluation document.  It would have been easy for James to simply write up the evaluation based solely on his perspective.  However, James took the time to gather the viewpoints of not only ourselves who commissioned the work, the Director and Writer, but he also took the time to both interview and transcribe each actors' character perspective and viewpoints.  This is simply a testament to his dedication to cover all angles, with an astute sense of attention to detail.

We would like to thank you James for your support, commitment and the high level of professionalism you brought to the whole project.  The Sexual Health Promotion Service have no reservations in recommending you to other services.  Top man!"

"James Pogson delivered an entertaining yet thought provoking message around the issue of men's health - as both a Quiz Master and Presenter at our Men's Health Day Event held at Nechells Green Community Centre in Birmingham.  His ability to engage his audience, question their beliefs and coax honest responses from them was both intelligent and creative.

It's clear that James' methodology made a great impact; using humour as a vehicle for change and to tackle taboo subjects.  His witty and natural presenting style connected with the intended audience and achieved the emotional connection we were all hoping for.  I thoroughly recommend James Pogson as  a compelling creative communicator if you're striving to deliver important messages to your target audience."
